Tree surgery

Qualified tree surgery across East Sussex.

Crown work, sectional dismantling, stump grinding and hedge cutting at homes around Hastings, Battle, Bexhill, Rye and the villages between. We work to BS3998, check for nesting birds before we start, and handle TPO and Section 211 paperwork for you. NPTC qualified, fully insured, and tidy when we leave.

What qualified looks like

What qualified tree work looks like

Qualified tree surgery isn't just about the saw. It's BS3998 as the standard, NPTC tickets for the climbing and cutting, LOLER inspection on the kit every six months, and a nesting-bird check before anything starts between March and August. If a tree is TPO'd or in a conservation area, we file the Section 211 notice or the TPO application with the council and wait the clock out before we turn up.

Across East Sussex we cover the full range of domestic tree work: crown reductions on mature oaks, sectional dismantling where there's no room to drop, stump grinding through awkward gardens, hedge cutting, pollarding, deadwooding and storm damage. Most jobs are a day or less on site, chipped and cleared before we leave.

What we do

What we do

Eight kinds of tree work we're on most weeks.

Crown reduction

Taking height and spread off a tree in small cuts back to a growth point, so it keeps its shape and carries on. Not topping.

Learn more →

Crown thinning

Reducing density inside the crown to let light and wind through, without changing the tree's size or outline.

Learn more →

Crown lifting

Removing the lower limbs to raise the clearance over a lawn, drive or path. Clean cuts at the branch collar, no stubs.

Learn more →

Felling and sectional dismantling

Straight fells where there's room, rope and rigging where there isn't. Close to buildings we lower sections down piece by piece.

Learn more →

Stump grinding

Grinding out the stump and main roots to below ground level so you can lawn, plant or pave over the spot.

Learn more →

Pollarding

A regular cycle back to established pollard points on species that take it. Willow, lime and plane are the usual ones.

Learn more →

Hedge cutting

Annual trims, hard reductions on overgrown runs, reshaping after storm damage. Laurel, leylandii, beech, privet and mixed native hedges.

Learn more →

Deadwooding and storm damage

Taking the dead and hanging wood out of a mature crown, and getting to storm-hit trees the same day where we can.

How we price

How we price

We don't post fixed prices because every tree is different. Species, size, access, waste and whether the tree is TPO'd all change the number. What we will do is come out, walk the job with you, and send a written quote in two working days with the method, the time on site and the waste plan.

We won't be the cheapest number you get back. We'll explain what's in the price and why, and if we're not the right fit we'll wish you well.

Recent work

A TPO'd oak in Battle, reduced not felled.

A mature English oak, fifteen metres, TPO'd, with a limb over the conservatory. They'd been told to fell it. We filed a Section 211 notice with Rother, reduced it properly, and left the tree standing.
